We Held a Seminar on Indie Game Hardware Development!

In May 2025, we hosted FGDC Study Group Vol.22 titled “Introduction to Indie Game Hardware Development.” This event focused on the emerging field of indie game hardware and aimed to share practical insights with developers and creators.

The session explored the historical relationship between indie games and hardware development around 2010, and how technological advancements have changed the landscape. While game engines like Unity lowered the barrier for software development, hardware development remained challenging until recent improvements in manufacturing ecosystems and generative AI significantly reduced those barriers.

The speaker also shared a real-world case study based on hands-on experience over the past year, covering the full process from planning and manufacturing to sales. These practical insights provided valuable takeaways for participants interested in entering the field.

A networking session followed the seminar, allowing participants to exchange ideas and connect. The event highlighted growing interest in indie game hardware and contributed to fostering a new wave of innovation.
